Why Shraddha Kapoor Eetha is facing controversy before release

Why is Shraddha Kapoor’s Eetha in TROUBLE? Here’s the full story

Shraddha Kapoor’s upcoming biographical drama Eetha has found itself at the centre of a major controversy ahead of its release. While the teaser has earned praise for Shraddha’s impressive transformation into legendary Lavani and Tamasha artiste Vithabai Narayangaonkar, the film’s title has triggered strong objections from the late performer’s family.

According to reports, members of Vithabai Narayangaonkar’s family believe the biopic should be titled Vithabai instead of Eetha. They argue that a film based on the life of such an iconic cultural figure should carry her real name to properly honour her legacy and ensure future generations recognize her contributions to Maharashtra’s folk arts.

The controversy gained momentum after the teaser was unveiled. Although audiences applauded Shraddha Kapoor’s performance and authentic look, Vithabai’s family publicly urged the filmmakers to reconsider the title. They have reportedly approached cultural organizations and political representatives to support their demand for a name change before the film’s release.

Despite the ongoing dispute, the makers have not announced any plans to rename the film. Eetha continues to generate significant buzz, with many fans expressing excitement about Shraddha Kapoor’s portrayal of one of India’s greatest folk performers.

Directed by Laxman Utekar, the biopic chronicles the inspiring journey of Vithabai Narayangaonkar, who overcame numerous hardships to become one of Maharashtra’s most celebrated Tamasha and Lavani artists. The film aims to introduce her remarkable story to a new generation of audiences while highlighting her immense contribution to Indian folk culture.
