Pradeep Rawat Last Rites to Be Held Today in Mumbai, Film Fraternity Mourns Veteran Actor death
Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, best known for his powerful performances in Ghajini, Lagaan, Sarfarosh, and the iconic television series Mahabharat, will be laid to rest in Mumbai today. The actor passed away on August 4, 2026, at the age of 74, after a prolonged battle with blood cancer. His manager confirmed that Rawat breathed his last at a Mumbai hospital after his health deteriorated in recent weeks.
According to reports, Rawat had successfully fought cancer several years ago, but the disease returned around six weeks ago. He had been under medical care for nearly a month before his condition worsened due to a significant drop in platelet count. Despite the efforts of doctors, he could not recover.
The actor’s last rites will be performed in Mumbai today, with family members, close friends, and colleagues from the film industry expected to attend and pay their final respects.
News of Rawat’s demise has sent shockwaves across the Indian film industry. His Lagaan co-star Yashpal Sharma shared an emotional tribute, remembering him as “our Ghajini, our Deva Singh,” while actor Gajendra Chauhan recalled Rawat’s unforgettable portrayal of Ashwatthama in Mahabharat. Several actors and fans also took to social media to express their grief and celebrate his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.
Pradeep Rawat enjoyed a career spanning over four decades and worked across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema. Though he was widely recognized for playing intense villains, his commanding screen presence and versatile acting earned him respect throughout the industry. His memorable performances in Ghajini, Lagaan, Sye, Naayak, Sarfarosh, and his recent appearance in Chhaava ensured that he remained one of Indian cinema’s most admired character actors.
