Uttarakhand Minister Subodh Uniyal Denies Apologising to Daler Mehndi, Says Singer Disappointed Audience
Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal has denied apologising to popular Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi following their public confrontation at the Kunjapuri Mela in Uttarakhand. The minister’s latest remarks have reignited the controversy surrounding the singer’s interrupted performance at the cultural event.
The controversy began after Uniyal questioned Mehndi’s performance in front of the audience. While reports previously suggested that the minister had apologised to the singer over a telephone call, Uniyal has now rejected those claims, insisting that he has no reason to apologise.
Subodh Uniyal Rejects Apology Reports
During an interview with the YouTube channel Satya Vani, Uniyal was asked whether he had apologised to Daler Mehndi following their on-stage confrontation.
The minister firmly denied the reports, saying there was no question of him apologising. He also questioned whether he had committed any wrongdoing that would require an apology.
Uniyal maintained that his concerns were related to the singer’s performance and the expectations of the people who had gathered to watch him.
According to the minister, if Mehndi was feeling unwell, he should either have informed the organisers beforehand or explained his condition to the audience during the event.
Minister Says Daler Mehndi Failed to Meet Audience Expectations
Uniyal also criticised Mehndi for allegedly failing to meet the expectations of the audience despite receiving payment for the performance.
The minister argued that performers have a responsibility to communicate with event organisers if their health prevents them from delivering the expected performance.
His comments have added another dimension to the dispute, which has attracted considerable attention on social media and within the entertainment industry.
However, the minister’s allegations about the singer’s condition and performance remain his claims and should not be treated as independently established facts.
How the Kunjapuri Mela Controversy Started
The dispute dates back to October 18, 2026, when Daler Mehndi performed at the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district.
During the performance, Uniyal interrupted the singer and questioned his conduct on stage. The minister alleged that Mehndi was under the influence of alcohol and was lip-syncing rather than singing live.
The incident quickly attracted public attention, with several people criticising the manner in which the veteran singer was addressed during the event.
Mehndi’s brother, singer Mika Singh, also expressed concern about the incident and emphasised the importance of treating artists with dignity and respect.
Mika Singh Team Previously Claimed an Apology Was Made
The controversy took another turn when Mika Singh’s team issued a statement claiming that Uniyal had apologised to Daler Mehndi during a telephone conversation.
The statement welcomed the reported apology and said that respecting artists and their dignity was important. It also expressed hope that the dispute could be put behind them.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had also spoken with the Mehndi brothers and reportedly apologised on behalf of the minister, according to Mika Singh.
However, Uniyal’s latest comments directly contradict the reports that he personally apologised to the singer.
Controversy Continues
With Uniyal denying the apology and continuing to defend his criticism of the performance, the dispute remains a talking point in entertainment news.
The incident has also sparked a wider discussion about the treatment of performers at public events and the responsibilities of both artists and organisers.
Neither the reported telephone apology nor the minister’s allegations should be confused with a mutually agreed resolution. Uniyal’s latest statement makes it clear that he does not accept the account that he personally apologised to Mehndi.
