Chris Hemsworth Extraction 3 Wraps Filming, Netflix Sequel Nears Next Stage
Chris Hemsworth’s highly anticipated action sequel, Extraction 3, has reached a major milestone, with filming reportedly wrapping up following its final shooting schedule in Thailand. The development brings fans one step closer to seeing the Australian actor return as the fearless mercenary Tyler Rake.
The third installment is being developed for Netflix and will continue the story of the popular Extraction action franchise. The first film premiered in 2020, followed by Extraction 2 in 2023. Both movies attracted a global audience with their intense action sequences, dangerous rescue missions and fast-paced storytelling.
Chris Hemsworth Returns as Tyler Rake
Hemsworth is returning to his popular role as Tyler Rake, a former black-ops operative known for taking on extremely dangerous missions. The character has become one of the actor’s most recognisable action roles outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On October 28, 2026, Hemsworth shared an update about finishing his time in Thailand. He revealed that he had spent several intense weeks filming Extraction 3, while also making time for outdoor activities and family adventures during his days off.
His update has increased excitement among fans who have been waiting for the next chapter of Tyler Rake’s story.
Filming Took Place in Australia and Thailand
Production on Extraction 3 began in Australia in July 2026, with filming taking place around Sydney and the New South Wales South Coast. The production later moved to Thailand for additional filming.
Director Sam Hargrave has returned to lead the third movie after directing the previous two installments. His experience as a stunt coordinator has helped establish the franchise’s signature style, featuring close-combat sequences, dangerous stunts and extended action scenes.
The Australian production was also expected to support hundreds of local jobs and contribute significantly to the regional screen industry.
Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani Return
Alongside Hemsworth, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani are returning to the franchise. Elba plays Alcott, while Farahani reprises her role as Nik Khan, Tyler Rake’s trusted ally.
The upcoming sequel also features Pierce Brosnan, Don Lee, Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry and Siena Agudong. Some character details and important story elements remain undisclosed.
The return of familiar faces, combined with new additions to the cast, could give the third film a fresh dynamic while maintaining the franchise’s established identity.
What Is the Story of Extraction 3?
Netflix has not revealed the complete storyline of Extraction 3. However, the film is expected to continue the dangerous world of mercenary operations, high-risk assignments and international conflicts that defined the previous movies.
Tyler Rake’s next mission remains a closely guarded secret. Fans can expect the filmmakers to build on the series’ reputation for physical action, intense confrontations and large-scale rescue operations.
The third installment is directed by Sam Hargrave, with David Weil involved in writing the screenplay. The Russo brothers are also returning as producers through their AGBO production company.
When Will Extraction 3 Release on Netflix?
Although filming has reportedly wrapped, Netflix has not officially confirmed the movie’s exact release date.
The film is widely expected to arrive in 2027, but the final schedule will depend on post-production, editing, visual effects and Netflix’s release plans. An exact premiere date should not be considered confirmed until the streaming platform announces it.
The franchise is also expanding through other projects, including the Korean action film Tygo and the series Mercenary: An Extraction Series.
Conclusion
The reported completion of filming marks an important step forward for Extraction 3. With Chris Hemsworth returning as Tyler Rake, Sam Hargrave back as director and several familiar actors reprising their roles, the sequel is shaping up to be another major action release for Netflix.
