Pankaj Tripathi was born on 5 September 1976 in the small village of Belsand, Gopalganj district, Bihar, India. His father, Pandit Benares Tiwari, was a farmer and a priest, while his mother, Hemwanti Devi, was a homemaker. As a child, he would help his father in the fields and perform in local stage plays during Chhath Puja celebrations, often portraying female characters due to the lack of women performers in village drama groups.
