Vijay Celebrates First Independence Day as Tamil Nadu CM, Trisha Attends Ceremony with Mother
Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay celebrated his first Independence Day as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on August 15, 2026. He attended the official celebrations in Chennai and participated in the flag-hoisting ceremony at Fort St George.
The event attracted significant attention as actress Trisha Krishnan attended the ceremony along with her mother, Uma Krishnan. Trisha was seen seated in the front row with Vijay’s parents, S.A. Chandrasekhar and Shobha Chandrasekhar.
A moment from the ceremony also went viral on social media when Trisha was seen saluting Vijay during the Independence Day proceedings. The interaction quickly became a talking point among fans, especially because Vijay and Trisha have shared the screen in several popular Tamil films.
Vijay delivered his Independence Day address and spoke about issues including caste and religious divisions, corruption and the importance of social unity. He emphasized the need to work toward a more inclusive and corruption-free Tamil Nadu.
Trisha attended the ceremony in a traditional saree and remained seated alongside Vijay’s family for the proceedings. Her presence added a major celebrity angle to Vijay’s first Independence Day celebration as Tamil Nadu CM.
