Nani and Srikanth Odela Discuss The Paradise Response. Director Says He Is Still Trying to Understand Audience Reactions
Nani and director Srikanth Odela have opened up about the varied audience response to their latest film, The Paradise. The movie, which released in theatres on September 24, has generated strong interest as well as divided reactions from viewers and reviewers.
During a recent conversation about the film’s reception, Srikanth Odela admitted that he was surprised by the contrasting reactions. The director said he was still trying to understand why some viewers strongly connected with the film while others were critical of it.
Srikanth explained that the response left him genuinely confused. According to the director, he could understand the audience reaction to his earlier film Dasara much more quickly, whereas the response to The Paradise has been difficult for him to interpret. He suggested that he may need some time before he fully understands how the film has been received.
“I literally got shocked at a few things, and for a few things, I am not understanding them. I mean, genuinely, I don’t understand what it is,” Srikanth said while discussing the reactions. He added that he did not completely understand either the positive or negative responses and felt that it could take about a week for him to process what exactly happened.
Nani, meanwhile, offered a different perspective on the response. The actor suggested that the strong reactions themselves demonstrate the level of trust and expectations audiences had from the actor-director combination.
The film marks Nani and Srikanth Odela’s second collaboration after Dasara. Their previous film established expectations around their partnership, and The Paradise was subsequently promoted as a much larger and more ambitious project.
Nani had previously acknowledged the mixed response after the film’s release. He said that he had gone through audience reactions, appreciated the love he received and even enjoyed the humorous trolling surrounding the movie. He also said that he had taken note of the flaws highlighted by critics and reviewers.
The actor emphasized that the team had put considerable effort into making The Paradise and wanted to provide audiences with a distinctive cinematic experience. He also indicated that the final judgment of the film ultimately belonged to viewers.
Despite the divided reactions, the film has attracted considerable attention at the box office. Early reports indicated a strong opening, demonstrating the significant curiosity surrounding Nani’s collaboration with Srikanth Odela.
The Paradise is set against the backdrop of 1980s Secunderabad and explores the struggles of a marginalized community facing discrimination and fighting for dignity, rights and a place in society. Nani leads the film, while Raghav Juyal, Kayadu Lohar, Mohan Babu, Sonali Kulkarni and Sampoornesh Babu are also part of the cast.
Srikanth Odela has previously revealed that several elements of the story were inspired by real-life incidents he witnessed while growing up in Telangana. The filmmaker has described the movie as an emotional story involving a mother and son as well as a marginalized community.
The differing reactions to The Paradise have now become an important part of the film’s post-release conversation. While some viewers have appreciated Nani’s performance, the film’s scale and action sequences, others have raised questions about its screenplay, pacing, editing and emotional connection.
