A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Confirmed With A Major Tone Change
HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is officially returning for Season 2 in 2027. The new season will continue the adventures of Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and his young companion Egg, while introducing a noticeably different emotional tone.
Season 1 focused on the friendship between Dunk and Egg, mixing humour, adventure and smaller-scale conflicts within the world of Westeros. Season 2 is expected to become more emotional and serious, with star Peter Claffey previously teasing that the upcoming story contains considerably more sadness.
Season 2 adapts The Sworn Sword
The second season will be based on George R.R. Martin’s novella The Sworn Sword, the second major Dunk and Egg story.
The narrative takes Dunk and Egg to a new part of Westeros, where they become involved in a conflict between powerful families. A severe drought creates additional tension, while the dispute between rival houses becomes increasingly dangerous.
Unlike the massive battles and political conflicts seen in Game of Thrones, the series continues to focus on a smaller group of characters and personal relationships.
A major tone change
One of the biggest differences in Season 2 will be its emotional atmosphere. While Season 1 maintained a warm and occasionally humorous tone, the next chapter is expected to explore darker and more heartbreaking moments.
Dunk will face situations that test his sense of honour, loyalty and responsibility. His relationship with Egg will also become more complicated as the young boy’s true identity and importance continue to influence their journey.
Despite the darker material, the series is expected to retain the humour and chemistry between the two central characters.
More travelling and a new adventure
Season 2 is also expected to have a stronger road-adventure structure. Dunk and Egg will travel through different parts of Westeros as they become caught up in the conflict surrounding the rival houses.
This travelling format will allow the show to introduce new locations, characters and challenges while expanding the world beyond the events of the first season.

Peter Claffey will return as Ser Duncan the Tall, while Dexter Sol Ansell will reprise his role as Egg.
Their relationship remains the emotional centre of the series. Dunk is an inexperienced but honourable knight trying to make his way through Westeros, while Egg is secretly a member of the Targaryen royal family.
The contrast between Dunk’s straightforward nature and Egg’s hidden royal identity continues to drive much of the story.
