Raid 2 Box Office Report: Ajay Devgn’s Film Misses ₹50 Crore Mark by Day 3 Despite Strong Start
Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, the much-awaited sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Raid, finally hit theatres on May 1. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film brings back the gritty world of IRS officer Amay Patnaik, played by Devgn, and this time, he’s out to crack another high-stakes corruption case. Despite being one of the most anticipated releases of the year, Raid 2 has seen a mixed response from both audiences and critics.
Day-Wise Box Office Collection
The film opened with a bang, earning ₹19.25 crore on its first day, marking Ajay Devgn’s second-highest opening since the pandemic. It surpassed the opening numbers of his recent films like Drishyam 2 and Shaitaan. The only film that performed better for Devgn in recent years was Singham Again, which collected ₹43.5 crore on its debut.
However, Raid 2 witnessed a noticeable dip on its second day, collecting ₹12 crore. This drop, although expected after a strong opening, raised eyebrows. Fortunately, the weekend helped the film regain some momentum. On Day 3 (Saturday), early estimates suggest that Raid 2 earned around ₹18 crore, taking its three-day total to ₹49.25 crore.
Despite the weekend push, the film narrowly missed touching the ₹50 crore mark by the end of Day 3 — a psychological milestone that many big releases aim to cross within their first weekend.
Competition and Challenges
While Raid 2 had the advantage of being a sequel with an established fan base, it faced stiff competition at the box office. Other releases like Retro and HIT 3 have been drawing audiences and affecting overall footfalls for Raid 2. Moreover, the film’s mixed word of mouth and lukewarm critic reviews seem to have impacted its weekday pull.
Star Cast and Expectations
Alongside Ajay Devgn, the film features a strong supporting cast including Saurabh Shukla, Vaani Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Jacqueline Fernandez. The item songs featuring Tamannaah and Jacqueline have added glamour to the film, though the core strength remains its gritty narrative and Devgn’s intense performance.
While Raid 2 hasn’t quite matched the expectations set by its predecessor — which earned ₹103 crore in India — it still holds potential in the coming week, especially if positive word of mouth continues to grow. The film is also expected to stream on Netflix a month after its theatrical release, although an official confirmation is awaited.
