Diljit Dosanjh faced backlash after starring in Sardaar Ji 3 alongside Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The film didn’t release in India due to the political climate and industry-wide boycotts of Pakistani collaborations following recent terror attacks. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) objected strongly to this move and initially called for Diljit to be removed from the upcoming film Border 2.
Why the Ban Was Lifted for Border 2
FWICE lifted the ban under specific conditions:
-
Border 2 was already 80–85% complete, and recasting Diljit would have caused major financial and production losses.
-
The film’s producer, Bhushan Kumar, personally appealed to FWICE and provided a written assurance that he would not work with Diljit in future projects.
-
Based on this, FWICE made a one-time exception allowing Diljit to remain in the film, solely to ensure the project could be completed.
FWICE Continuing Position
-
The organization has not changed its general stance: it continues to discourage any industry collaboration with Diljit in the future.
-
They’ve also written to government authorities, objecting to the film being shot at prestigious institutions like the NDA, arguing Diljit’s involvement sends the wrong message.
