Drishyam The Conclusion vs Drishyam 3: Ajay Devgn and Mohanlal Films Seek Closure, But the Roads Never Meet
The much-loved Drishyam franchise has taken two completely different paths in Hindi and Malayalam cinema. While Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ brings the Hindi franchise to its third chapter, Mohanlal’s Malayalam ‘Drishyam 3’ takes Georgekutty’s story in another direction.
Despite sharing the same franchise roots, the two films are not remakes of each other. After the first two installments followed the Malayalam storyline, both versions have now developed independent narratives.
Ajay Devgn Drishyam: The Conclusion
Directed by Abhishek Pathak, ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ brings back Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, along with Tabu, Shriya Saran, Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat.
The film was released in theatres on October 2, 2026, and is being presented as the final chapter of the Hindi trilogy. Unlike the earlier films, the third installment follows an original story rather than adapting the Malayalam ‘Drishyam 3’.
The story once again puts Vijay and his family under pressure as an old case creates new complications. Tabu returns as Meera Deshmukh, while Jaideep Ahlawat joins the franchise as a new police officer who becomes a major challenge for Vijay.
The Hindi film focuses heavily on Vijay’s battle against the legal system and his attempts to protect his family while dealing with new evidence and powerful opponents.
Mohanlal Drishyam 3
Meanwhile, Mohanlal returns as Georgekutty in the Malayalam version, directed by Jeethu Joseph.
‘Drishyam 3’ was released in May 2026 and continues the story established by the original Malayalam films. However, its narrative is substantially different from Ajay Devgn’s Hindi film.
The Malayalam film explores Georgekutty’s life after the events of the previous installments and places greater emphasis on his daughter Anju, her psychological struggles and her personal life.
The film also examines how Georgekutty’s past continues to affect his family despite the apparent stability they have achieved.
The Biggest Difference Between the Two Films
The biggest difference is that ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ and ‘Drishyam 3’ do not tell the same story.
In the Hindi film, the focus remains strongly on Vijay Salgaonkar and the legal battle surrounding his family. Meera Deshmukh’s return and the involvement of Jaideep Ahlawat’s character create new complications for Vijay.
The Malayalam film takes a different approach, giving more attention to Georgekutty’s family, Anju’s life and the psychological consequences of the events from the earlier films.
This means audiences watching both versions will encounter different characters, conflicts, twists and narrative developments.
Different Beginnings, Different Tone
The contrast begins right from the opening portions.
‘Drishyam 3’ reportedly starts on a comparatively celebratory note, with Georgekutty enjoying the success of his filmmaking ambitions. The opening establishes that his life has reached a seemingly comfortable stage.
‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’, on the other hand, begins with a much darker atmosphere. Meera Deshmukh’s personal crisis eventually becomes connected to the reopening of the case involving Vijay and his family.
The difference in tone immediately signals that the two films are heading toward separate conclusions.
Vijay vs Georgekutty
Ajay Devgn’s Vijay and Mohanlal’s Georgekutty remain the emotional centres of their respective films.
Both characters are willing to go to extraordinary lengths to protect their families. However, their circumstances and the challenges they face in the third installments are no longer identical.
Vijay’s story is driven more by the legal and investigative threat surrounding him, while Georgekutty’s story explores the continuing consequences of his family’s past.
Why the Hindi Film Is Not a Remake of Drishyam 3
Ajay Devgn had already clarified before the release that the Hindi third installment was based on a completely different script.
According to Devgn, the Hindi team did not simply make changes to the Malayalam story. Instead, they developed an entirely separate narrative for Vijay Salgaonkar. He also expressed his desire for Mohanlal and Malayalam director Jeethu Joseph to watch the Hindi film.
This creative decision allowed the Hindi filmmakers to take Vijay’s story in a direction that was different from Georgekutty’s journey.
Two Conclusions, One Franchise
Although the Hindi and Malayalam films now follow separate paths, both retain the central idea that made the franchise popular: how far can a person go to protect their family?
‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ attempts to provide closure to Vijay Salgaonkar’s Hindi story, while ‘Drishyam 3’ continues to explore Georgekutty’s world in Malayalam cinema.
The two films therefore work as parallel versions of the same franchise rather than direct counterparts. Their stories may have started from the same foundation, but by the third chapter, Vijay and Georgekutty are travelling on completely different roads.

For fans, this also means that watching one film does not reveal the complete story of the other. Each version now has its own characters, conflicts, twists and future possibilities.
