Kumar Sanu Ex-Wife Rita Bhattacharya Breaks Silence on Rs 50 Crore Defamation Case Makes Emotional Appeal

Full Details:

Veteran playback singer Kumar Sanu’s ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya has finally broken her silence after the singer filed a defamation case worth Rs 50 crore against her. The legal dispute has once again brought their long-standing personal differences into the public spotlight.

Reacting to the lawsuit, Rita expressed shock and disbelief over the massive compensation amount mentioned in the legal notice. She stated that she cannot understand how such a figure was arrived at, adding that she does not possess that kind of money. According to her, the notice has caused immense mental stress, especially considering her age and current circumstances.

In her first public response, Rita made an emotional appeal to Kumar Sanu, saying that she will face him in court but hopes the matter does not escalate further. She said she would “request him with folded hands” to stop harassing her and their children and to allow them to live peacefully.

Rita also questioned why the defamation case was filed only against her, even though several people from the industry have spoken about Kumar Sanu in the past. She claimed that neither she nor her three sons have had any communication with the singer for a long time, alleging that all contact has been cut off.

Speaking about her children, Rita said they are grown adults and should not be dragged into legal battles arising from unresolved issues between former spouses. She described the legal action as emotionally draining and said it has reopened old wounds from a painful chapter of her life.

For context, Kumar Sanu and Rita Bhattacharya got married in 1986, separated in 1994, and were officially divorced in 2001. The couple has three sons together. The defamation suit reportedly stems from statements Rita made in recent interviews about her marriage, which Sanu’s legal team claims are false, defamatory, and in violation of their divorce agreement.

The case is now set to be heard in the Bombay High Court, where both parties will present their arguments. While Kumar Sanu maintains that his reputation has been damaged, Rita insists she is only speaking her truth and wants the matter to end without further conflict.
