Chhaava Box Office Day 1: Vicky Kaushal’s Historical Drama Scores Biggest Opening of 2025
Vicky Kaushal’s much-anticipated historical drama Chhaava finally hit theaters on February 14, 2025, and the film has made a powerful impact at the box office. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, the movie has registered an impressive opening, becoming the biggest Bollywood debut of the year so far.
Chhaava’s Box Office Performance
According to reports from Sacnilk, Chhaava earned a whopping ₹31 crore on its first day across all languages. This record-breaking opening makes it the highest-grossing day-one film of 2025 yet. The movie witnessed an overall occupancy of 35.17%, with evening shows drawing the highest footfall at 40.51%, followed by afternoon (34.50%) and morning shows (30.51%).
For Vicky Kaushal, this is a career-defining milestone, as Chhaava has now become his biggest opener, surpassing his previous record held by Uri: The Surgical Strike, which collected ₹8.20 crore on its opening day in 2019. Additionally, Chhaava has outperformed Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, which had an opening-day collection of ₹15.30 crore.
Vicky Kaushal’s Transformation for the Role
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava showcases Vicky Kaushal in the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta in key roles.
Playing such an iconic historical figure was no easy task for Vicky. In a recent interview with City Times, he admitted that stepping into the shoes of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was intimidating. “I actually got very scared because, being born and raised in Mumbai, I understand the significance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. They are not just historical figures; they are revered as gods,” he shared.
To embody the warrior king, Vicky underwent an intense physical transformation. Director Laxman Utekar had three strict conditions before filming began. Firstly, Vicky had to gain 25 kilos of muscle mass to look the part. “Laxman sir told me, ‘If I’m making you fight a lion, you need to look like a lion,’” the actor revealed. In addition to this, he had to grow his hair and beard to enhance the authenticity of his character.
What’s Next for Chhaava?
With a strong opening day collection, Chhaava is expected to witness further growth over the weekend. Given its historical significance and Vicky Kaushal’s dedicated performance, the film might continue to dominate the box office in the coming days.
Will Chhaava maintain its momentum and set new benchmarks for 2025? Only time will tell. For now, Vicky Kaushal has another feather in his cap with his biggest career opening yet. Also Read:- Salman Khan Takes on Masked Villains in High-Octane Teaser of Sikandar
