Udit Narayan Reacts to Viral Kiss Video, Calls It ‘Deewangi’
Veteran playback singer Udit Narayan, known for his soulful voice and evergreen songs, has found himself in the middle of a controversy. A recent video of him interacting with female fans during a live concert has gone viral, leading to widespread criticism and trolling on social media.

The video in question shows the 69-year-old singer performing the classic song Tip Tip Barsa Paani (Mohra, 1994). While engaging with the audience, he was seen clicking selfies and sharing affectionate moments with female fans. However, a specific segment of the video, where he appears to kiss some fans on the cheek—and possibly on the lips—has triggered a backlash. Many social media users criticized the singer, calling his actions inappropriate.
One user wrote, “What the hell was that? And why did more women keep allowing the behavior after the first attempt? The best part is people won’t classify this as serious groping because he is Udit. Shitty double standards of society.” Another commented, “Cheapness to a different level.”
Udit Narayan Responds to Trolling
Amid the growing controversy, Udit Narayan has finally broken his silence. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he dismissed the negative reactions, calling the incident an example of extreme fan enthusiasm.
“Some people encourage this and show their love in different ways. Why should I make a big issue out of it? There are so many people in the crowd, and we have bodyguards present too. But fans think they are getting a chance to meet me, so some extend their hands for a handshake, some kiss the hands… yeh sab deewangi hoti hai. Uspe itna dhyaan nahi dena chahiye,” he said.
The singer further defended himself, emphasizing that he comes from a reputed family and that such controversies are unnecessary. He also clarified that he has maintained a respectful image throughout his long career in Bollywood.
“I have been in this industry for 46 years, and I have never had such an image. In fact, when I see the love my fans shower on me, I fold my hands and bow down, thinking phir aaj ka yeh waqt laut ke aaye na aaye,” he explained.

While some fans have strongly condemned the singer’s actions, others have come to his defense, arguing that the interaction was a harmless moment of excitement between an artist and his admirers. However, the controversy raises important discussions about boundaries between celebrities and fans, especially in an era where social media amplifies every public action.
