Ramayana: Part 1 Everything You Need to Know About Ranbir Kapoor Mythological Epic
Ramayana: Part 1 is one of the most ambitious Indian films ever made and marks director Nitesh Tiwari’s grand adaptation of the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana. Produced on a massive scale, the film aims to present the timeless story of Lord Ram with cutting-edge visual effects, world-class production values and an international cinematic approach. The movie is the first installment of a planned two-part saga and is expected to redefine the mythological genre in Indian cinema.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol plays Lord Hanuman, while Ravie Dubey portrays Lakshman. The ensemble cast also includes Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Indira Krishnan, Kajal Aggarwal and Vivek Oberoi in key roles.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The screenplay has been crafted to stay rooted in the spirit of the original epic while presenting the story in a visually spectacular and emotionally engaging manner for modern audiences.
The story of Ramayana: Part 1 follows the early journey of Lord Ram, from his life in Ayodhya to his exile in the forest alongside Sita and Lakshman. The narrative explores the ideals of duty, sacrifice and righteousness before culminating in Ravana’s abduction of Sita, setting the stage for the epic conflict that will unfold in the second installment.
One of the film’s biggest highlights is its visual scale. The makers have collaborated with leading international VFX artists and technicians to create breathtaking landscapes, mythical creatures and large-scale battle sequences. Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer has joined forces with A.R. Rahman to create the film’s background score and soundtrack, making it one of the biggest musical collaborations in Indian cinema.
Filming has taken place across specially constructed sets and advanced virtual production stages, with extensive use of modern filmmaking technology to bring the world of the Ramayana to life. The makers have repeatedly stated that authenticity and respect for the source material remain their highest priorities.
Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release in theatres on Diwali 2026, while Ramayana: Part 2 is planned for Diwali 2027. The film will be released in multiple Indian and international languages, targeting audiences across the globe.
