Bollywood Unites in Grief After Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad

In a heart-wrenching tragedy, an Air India flight headed for London crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12. Flight AI-171, carrying 242 passengers, went down near the Meghaninagar area merely five minutes after its departure at 1:39 PM. The crash has sent shockwaves across the country, with rescue operations still underway as the nation reels from the devastating news.

Amid this calamity, the film fraternity has stood in solidarity with the victims and their families, expressing grief and support through social media and public gestures.

One of the most significant moves came from superstar Salman Khan, who canceled his scheduled appearance at the Indian Supercross Racing League event. The organisers, along with Salman, released a joint statement saying, “This is not a time for celebration. We stand united with the nation in this moment of sorrow. Our prayers are with the victims and their families.” The event has now been postponed to a later date.

Other leading names from Bollywood, too, shared their condolences.
Akshay Kumar, known for his composed demeanor, posted a brief yet emotional message: “Shocked and speechless at the Air India crash. Only prayers at this time.”

Sunny Deol voiced his sorrow, writing: “Devastated by the news of the plane crash in Ahmedabad. Praying with all my heart for survivors. May those who lost their lives rest in peace.”

Actor Riteish Deshmukh echoed the sentiments of a grieving nation: “Heartbroken and in shock. My thoughts and prayers are with the passengers, their families, and everyone affected on the ground.”

Disha Patani also posted her anguish, saying: “Heartbreaking to hear about the plane crash in Ahmedabad. Holding on to hope that there are survivors. Prayers for all the lives affected.”

Neil Nitin Mukesh, known for his emotional depth, said he was “heartbroken, shocked, and trembling with the saddest news.” He extended condolences to families of the deceased and wished for swift recovery for the injured.

Actor Rajeev Khandelwal, who studied in Ahmedabad, reflected on the personal connection he shares with the city. Speaking to Zoom, he shared, “It becomes even sadder because you know that city. But it would have felt just as tragic anywhere.”

The nation remains in mourning as authorities continue to assess the full scale of the disaster. As of now, rescue teams are working tirelessly in Meghaninagar, trying to locate survivors and provide aid to the injured. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

While the pain of loss is immeasurable, the wave of unity and empathy from every corner of India — including its film industry — stands as a reminder that in tragedy, the country comes together.
